So, what is a CSA you ask!?
A CSA Share is a vegetable box service that is purchased at the beginning of the season and helps the farmer to purchase seeds and equipment necessary to grow your food. This model has been used by farmers since the early-1980's as a secure source of produce sales. Members get a box full of fresh, organic veggies at a value of $30.00ish/week or roughly 7-10 bunches of different veggies (with new add on options this season, such as fresh bread, honey and eggs!), delivered to your home, office, or pick up from the farm.
The CSA program is for anyone of whom is interested in eating local, organically grown vegetables, is interested in supporting the delicate ecosystems by purchasing food not grown with chemicals and wants to support a small business and their own local economy by shopping local. By becoming a member, you grow your personal community involvement and become directly linked to the farmer of whom produces your food.
The cost for the CSA Pick Up option for the 2017 season is $480.00 for 16 weeks of weekly organic produce. The CSA runs from Mid-June to End of September. Members pick up from the weekly market stand at the farm in Goodwood. Click here to sign up today!
*Please note, if there are not enough Pick-Up Members to justify a full market stand, your veggies will already be boxed and ready for you upon pick-up*
The CSA share delivery option includes delivery within Stouffville, Uxbridge, Port Perry, and East York/Toronto. You will receive whatever vegetables are in season; similarities in vegetables occur from week to week but there will also be new ones ready often. Farmers take great care in creating crop plans at the beginning of the season to ensure there is a large variety of vegetables in their CSA Share boxes and their customers do not eat the same veggie over and over again. In addition, growing different varieties of vegetables encourages CSA members to try new food, create new recipes and grow their own vegetable knowledge. It's really fun to learn about all the yummy food available to us and to learn how to cook with it. Click here to sign up today!
Members will receive their vegetables in re-usable bags which need to be returned each week in order to continue to receive deliveries. You can keep these bags at the end of the season.
Vegetables to expect this season:
Cut leaf lettuce greens, potatoes, garlic and garlic scapes, mustard greens, collards, arugula, russian kale, mizuna, purslane, pea shoots, beans, peas, red and green head lettuce, green and red romaine, red and green kale, cherry, roma and other tomato varieties, cucumbers, basil, parsley, dill, tatsoi, green and bulb onions, carrots, beets, radishes, turnips, summer squash, winter squash, red and green cabbage, beans, bell peppers, spinach and swiss chard.
Please note: Due to the individual nature of a CSA, your membership cannot be canceled, refunded and your membership cannot be placed "on pause" like large boxed veggie delivery programs. You can however have your veggies donated to a neighbour or family member if you're away at some point during the CSA season.
